About Ash

Hi Ash! What can learners expect if they come to study in your department?

There’s never a dull moment! Our curriculums are packed with exciting trips, visits and experiences that are designed to get you ready for your next steps. Learners can expect a highly motivated and passionate team that are dedicated to getting the best out of you. Our aim is to help you develop key skills you can offer an employer. Gaining a qualification is just the start…

tell us a little bit about yourself...

I joined Telford College in 2018. My main interests and hobbies are sport, sport and more sport (obviously)! In my spare time (when not playing sport), you will often find me amongst the Shropshire countryside walking with my dog, Yogi.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

Helping people, seeing staff or students achieve and gain confidence is something I never get tired of.

How do you and your team get the best out of students?

We go the extra mile to support students, we don’t accept anything other than people’s best efforts. We model that to our students on a daily basis to show them how to be in the workplace, how to be a good professional, and most importantly, good person.

Tell us about specific parts of the courses which are particularly popular with current students, and why.

The trips and visits. Every week in college there is something different going on. It keeps things fresh and exciting, there is always something new to see and learn from.

List a few of the main career progression opportunities.

The list is endless and the sky is the limit, but here are some of the main roles our students go on to: Armed and Uniformed Services (Army, Navy, Police, Fire, RAF etc.), Coaching and Teaching, Physiotherapy, Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist, Sports Scientist, Analyst for professional sports clubs (I could go on!).

what do you do in your spare time?

Sport, reading books, watching films, yoga, running, cricket, hockey, football, eating out.

Taking students to Tanzania, Africa on 4 week residential, we learnt how to scuba dive, worked with the community to build schools and went on safari!

Salt and Vinegar Crisps (Kettle Chips ideally), a football and a boat (to get off the desert island!)
