LJMU Together – making a difference

Our city and our university stand tall together. We have grown from the confident, ambitious origins of Liverpool and have a shared history built on working hard, caring about supporting people and communities and being proud of who we are.

We have a distinct place in this lively city with our warm, friendly and open people. We share a spirit of adventure with a community striving to make a difference and put something back.

Our staff, students and alumni are the beating heart of this university, with an impact that goes beyond academic, economic and social measures. It can be seen in our physical footprint around the city, our global connections and how often you will meet someone who has been transformed by a connection with our university and has helped transform the lives of others.

Making a difference is what a university should be about. It is what we are about. It is who we are. It is Liverpool John Moores University.

Birmingham has been challenging and developing great minds for more than a century. Characterised by a tradition of innovation, research at the University has broken new ground, pushed forward the boundaries of knowledge and made an impact on people’s lives.

We continue this tradition today and have ambitions for a future that will embed our work and recognition of the Birmingham name on the international stage.

Universities are never complete. They develop as new challenges and opportunities occur. At Birmingham we innovate, we push the frontiers of understanding; we ask new research questions, we turn theory through experiment into practice – because that’s what great universities do.

Our resources can be accessed on our Teachers website. As well as general information there are a number of useful videos that can be shared with students covering topics such as:

We are also looking at hosting several Pathways to Birmingham webinars to provide further guidance to your students, as well as an opportunity for any questions. A schedule will be circulated in due course.

In terms of subject specific support we have a number of resources available for students considering healthcare degrees and careers (medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene/therapy, nursing, pharmacy and biomedical sciences). We are also running live webinars covering general topics but also subject specific sessions. Furthermore, there is also a collection of videos called Shape Your Future. This has involved current University of Birmingham students interviewing academics about contemporary issues, from the Black Lives Matter protests to Social Media.

Academics from various different Schools and Colleges have put together academic resources to support the transition of students from school to university. They cover a large range of subject areas and will be of interest to Year 13 students looking to start university in September and also Year 12 students who may have missed out on teaching time.

Telford College students may also be interested in our EPS Future Foundation Year which is a fully-funded Foundation Year aimed at students interested in Science and Engineering. Further information on the course and eligibility can be found here. There is also a live webinar to find out more on Tuesday 6th October between 4:00-4:30pm. The University of Exeter is a public research university based in Exeter, South West England. A member of the Russell Group of UK universities, it combines excellence in teaching and research. It was awarded gold in the first Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in recognition of the high quality of its teaching. 98% of its research was rated as international quality in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF). Its motto is Lucem sequimur (we follow the light).

The University is spread across four campuses: Streatham and St Luke’s in Exeter, and Penryn and Truro in Cornwall. In 1993, Camborne School of Mines was merged into the University of Exeter.

The University is organised into six academic colleges. Their many research institutes and centres include the Centre for Leadership Studies, the Bill Douglas Centre for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture, the Living Systems Institute and the Environment and Sustainability Institute. Our students are some of the most satisfied in the U.K – they consistently rate us highly for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey- and come from all around the world and from every conceivable background.

Whether you’re based at Penryn, St Luke’s, or Streatham, you’ll find the same thing- engaged, inclusive, safe communities of people who come together around shared interests and values. What brings you together could be that you live in the same halls, study the same course, worship at the same place, belong to the same society or sports club- or just keep bumping into each other in the library or a cafe.
