About the course

This one-year course is ideal if you’re a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience who would like a deeper understanding of the role of a modern engineer. You will learn about the role of an engineer, what it means to be employed in the engineering sector, what kinds of material engineered products are manufactured from, and why. You will also use complex machines to manufacture component parts from material such as mild steel and aluminium. The skills and knowledge you gain are ideal for employment as an apprentice in the engineering sector.

– Manual turning / milling techniques
– Electrical and electronic principles
– Engineering techniques
– Engineering maths and science

Work placement opportunities: AceOn specialist battery manufacturers, Iconsys, Protolabs

Progressing to: Engineering apprenticeship or employment with local companies such as Avara Foods, Epson, and Moveero (formerly GKN Wheels)
Aspirational careers: Mechatronics maintenance technician, manufacturing technician, design technician

4 GCSEs at grade 3, including English or maths

Students will require:

Steel toe capped safety boots/shoes
Navy blue overalls
Scientific calculator
Notepad/notebook/A4 folder with paper
Suitable pen (black or blue ink)
