It all adds up for Telford College accounting studentsPublished: June 14, 2018
The head of finance at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has been sharing money management and career tips with Telford College accounting students.
Will Strachan visited the Haybridge campus to give a talk to members of the accounting level three group, explaining about his own career, and opportunities in the accountancy profession.
The visit was organised by Telford College’s enrichment co-ordinator Daniel Blasczyk, who said: “We wanted to give students an idea of the various progression routes they can now take.
“Will talked about his different experiences of working in various companies, large and small, throughout his career and how he then became finance manager at the chamber.”
Will joined the chamber’s Telford-based team in February 2016, having previously worked in finance for multi-national and private companies in the vehicle hire and drinks sectors.
As part of his current role, he supports the Shropshire Chamber export documentation department, helping local companies to build their overseas trade links.
Will said: “I enjoyed coming in to speak to the accounting students. I emphasised the importance of keeping up-to-date with modern software via regular training, communication and travelling to seek opportunities.’’
Student Muhammad Saif Hossen asked Will about the length of time it would take to become a fully qualified accountant.
“I’m looking at future progression routes and would like to get qualified as soon as possible – Will’s feedback was helpful,” he said.
