Callum has the makings of a top-class mechanic

A Telford vehicle repair and service centre says it is delighted with the performance of its first ever apprentice.

Callum Saville-SmithCallum Saville-Smith, 17, from Doseley, has joined the team at GGS Automotive in Hadley Park Road.

He originally started work experience with the company over a year ago, while he was studying at Mount Gilbert School, and when the opportunity of an apprenticeship arose, he was the first choice.

Callum said: “This is what I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m loving it. You meet some great characters, and there is never a dull day.”

Owner Mike Coleman added: “Callum is a natural, and we’re delighted with the way the apprenticeship is working through Telford College.

“Callum works with us five days a week, including day release at college, and it is a big jump from his school days.

“But he has stepped up and has proved how reliable he is. He is a very practical learner, loves getting dirty and seeing his finished product, and is very hands-on with jobs like discs and pads, servicing, and fixing turbos. He is turning into an excellent mechanic.”

Mike also praised the partnership with Callum’s Telford College assessor Stuart Thomas, saying: “He is very well organised and always puts the needs of the business first.”

You can still apply for courses this September here.
