Important changes to rules and regulations for approved MOT test centres will be explained at an event in Telford next month.
Telford College of Arts and Technology is hosting the free information session at its £3.5 million automotive training centre on February 16, from 7pm to 9pm.
TCAT is an approved automotive training centre for Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) qualifications, and approved for delivery of class four and seven MOT tester courses.
The February 16 event will include a presentation from Michelle Barrett of the IMI, who will explain the latest range of MOT tester qualifications.
Howard Barlow and David Stanier from Snap-on Industrial will also be discussing and demonstrating a range of equipment and diagnostic tools which are available in the TCAT training centre.
And the college’s automotive curriculum co-ordinator Jason Smith will be outlining the range of TCAT courses, including an evening tester training programme which runs for five weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays. For more details, see, or call 01952 642237.
Jason said: “There have been some important changes to regulations for MOT testers, introduced by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) over the past year.
“We will be explaining the implications of it all at our event on February 16, and providing everyone who attends with refreshments.”
He added: “Those already approved to undertake MOT tests are now required to complete a minimum three hours of annual training, to remain up-to-date with best practice methods.
“All testers must complete an MOT annual assessment, based on this learning, to maintain their professional status.
“And for people considering entering the world of MOT for the first time, the DVSA requires any new testers or managers to complete a qualification.
“There are no eligibility criteria for those wishing to apply for the IMI level three award in Test Centre Management.”
