Egg-stra special treat for teaching student Kareman

Student winning Easter egg completion

Telford College student Kareman Mahmoud received an egg-stra special surprise when she won a giant chocolate egg in the college’s easter raffle.

Kareman, who taught ICT at a school in Egypt before settling in the UK, is on a level two support teaching and learning in schools course at the college.

She has a placement at Apley Wood primary school lined up for her final year, and hopes to secure a teaching assistant role.

Her name was first out of the hat in a raffle organised by Telford College’s foundation students – where first prize was a giant chocolate egg donated by Telford-based Magna Specialist Confectioners.

The raffle is one of a series of activities created by the foundation students to raise funds for Hilbrae Dog Rescue near Telford.

The students have also held café mornings, a tombola, and have raised nearly £400.

Students within the college’s foundation area are volunteering weekly at Hilbrae Rescue Centre, walking dogs and undertaking other duties.

Hilbrae gives students the opportunity to gain valuable work skills and develop their understanding of animal responsibility and welfare. Hilbrae manager Marty Burrell was asked to draw the raffle winner.

Kareman is currently fasting for Ramadan, but said she was looking forward to enjoying the chocolate with her family after celebrating Eid.
