Award-winning student Daljeet Kaur is looking forward to a career as an early years teacher after completing a foundation degree course at Telford College.

Daljeet, from Hadley, is now in the process of topping up her qualification into a BA honours degree, at the same time as working at ABC Nursery in Crescent Road.

The 22-year-old said: “I returned to study with Telford College for my foundation degree as I had successfully achieved my level three diploma in childcare and education in 2014.

“My previous experience at the college had been very positive, building my confidence through the role of a student representative, and having received a student of the year award.

“I chose Telford College for my higher education studies as I had achieved a sense of belonging, and developed a warm relationship with the staff.”

The early years foundation degree course runs over two evenings a week – allowing students to combine their studies with existing jobs.

Daljeet, a former Hadley Learning Community student, added: “I’m looking forward to training to become an early years teacher in the near future after the completion of my top-up.”

She said the smaller class sizes on the Telford College course helped her to build a rapport with classmates and make friends in a short period of time.

“To anyone thinking of studying with Telford College, I think it’s an excellent choice as they have a range of courses to offer, both full time and part time.

“Their open events are also very well organised and helpful in exploring the different options. My siblings have also chosen to study with Telford College.

“I enjoyed learning about the ways in that children’s language and literacy can be supported effectively, and the course also allowed me to identify and view issues through theoretical lens and different perspectives that children and families face.”

“Having a supportive tutor and passionate lecturers in this field of study added to the very positive experience in completing my foundation degree successfully.”

Caroline Bastow, learner manager for higher education at Telford College, said: “Our foundation degree courses are perfect for those looking to further their qualifications, make a change in their working life, or increase earning potential.
