The Greatest Show – students bring movie magic to carnival

Foundation learners from Telford College took inspiration from hit movie The Greatest Showman to create one of the most colourful floats at this year’s Oakengates Carnival.

Students from the life skills and work skills courses at the Haybridge campus joined forces with the Carmichael School of Dance and Theatre Arts, based at Ketley Bank, to create the display.

Tutor Kristy Stuart said: “It was a fabulous day, and a wonderful project for our students.

“Telford College students created all of the artwork and decorations for the float which took part in the procession, and the Carmichael dancers dressed in character to complete The Greatest Showman theme.”

Talks are also now under way between the carnival organisers and Telford College to look at other potential collaborations over the coming months.

Kristy said: “Thousands of people turned out in the sunshine to watch the procession.

“This was a great chance for our students to showcase their work to the local community – and also a perfect example of the sort of partnership working we are keen to expand at the college.”
