New series of beauty therapy courses are getting under way

A new series of beauty therapy courses are getting under way at Telford College to fill a growing number of career opportunities in the region.

Full and part-time courses are being offered in The Retreat, the training salon at the Haybridge Road campus – and there is still time to enrol.

Fully qualified beauty therapists usually have to complete a level two or three qualification. Typically, they start as an assistant in a salon or spa, and work their way upwards.

Charlotte Anson, learner manager for beauty therapy, said: “The sector is growing more each year and that means plenty of opportunities for beauty therapists.

“Whether you are looking to retrain or develop current skills, we can offer high quality professional qualifications that prepare you for the working world.

“Part-time courses are all day on Monday, and Tuesday mornings, and are ideal for people looking to learn a new skill, or work their studies around childcare.”

Fiona Hand, from Newport, enrolled on the part-time beauty therapy course to retrain, after taking a career break to have children. She had previously been working in franchisee recruitment.

The 38-year-old completed her level two course last year, and has just re-signed for the level three programme.

Fiona said: “I’ve wanted to do this for years, and with my youngest child now starting school, this was the perfect time.

“It’s been a really good experience, with part-time students getting the chance to mix with those on full time courses. I hope to get a job in the beauty therapy business next year, with a view to eventually setting up my own salon.”
