Telford College recently received a generous donation of equipment from British electrical manufacturer Scolmore Group.
Founded in 1989, Tamworth-based Scolmore Group is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of electrical accessories, lighting, home automation, security and cable accessory products. The award-winning organisation designs, develops and manufactures an ever-expanding range of innovative, energy-efficient and time-saving solutions for domestic and commercial projects.
Today the Scolmore Group incorporates Click wiring accessories, Elucian circuit protection, Ovia lighting and lighting controls, ESP fire and security solutions, Sangamo heating controls and time switches, and Unicrimp cable accessories.
Neil McManus, technical engagement engineer at Scolmore Group, said: “We’re glad to have donated so many electrical products from our popular ranges, including our Click wiring accessories, Elucian consumer units and ESP fire and security products used by so many electricians nationwide.
“It’s really important to provide modern resources for students to use and get familiar with, as they are the future workforce of the electrical industry. We appreciate that donating this equipment to the college will help provide a better standard for the industry in Telford and beyond.
“As the industry constantly develops, with different emerging technologies available to generate electricity, there will always be a constant demand for electricians in every sector.”
Luke Foster, environmental technology lecturer at Telford College, said: “This equipment is vital to our curriculum, as it will be used by our current electrical installation students, our electrical installation and maintenance apprentices and our introduction to basic electronics adult course, keeping their studies as up to date as possible
“Some of the equipment we’ve been given, such as the Ovia Click Flow system for lighting, introduces new installation methods and will give students a huge advantage when starting their careers in the electrical industry.
“Studying electrical installations is so important, our courses cover a vast range of topics including sockets and systems, all the way up to distribution boards. It’s one of the most evolving areas in construction, with so much innovation and it’s going to keep expanding.
“Making ties with local companies such as Scolmore Group are fundamental to the progression of our courses and the college as a whole, we hope to do a lot more with them in the future.”
