Students learn about career opportunities on visit to EpsonPublished: December 7, 2017
A group of Telford College students learned about some exciting apprenticeship opportunities during a fact-finding visit to one of the town’s largest employers.
The engineering, maths and product design students, from both the Haybridge Road and King Street campuses, had chance to look round the five-acre Epson site at Hortonwood, which produces ink and printers.
They were given a tour of the premises with a short talk by each of the heads of area, before being told about two different training and development opportunities currently being offered by the company.
Samantha Jones, learner manager in the engineering department at Telford College, explained: “Epson offers a Higher Apprenticeship for learners wishing to gain knowledge and qualifications whilst in full-time employment.
“This route was interesting to the vast majority of engineering students who have been encouraged to send in their CVs, along with an opening email.
“Epson also has a Super Apprenticeship scheme where they will sponsor an individual through university, as well as paying them for their work experience, providing a laptop and printer and offering a cash incentive and guaranteed employment at the end of their degree.
“This offer appealed to those students who are currently completing full-time academic courses. Again, they have been encouraged to send in their CV along with a covering email.”
She added: “We would like to say a big thank-you to the team at Epson for giving up their time, and helping to highlight some exciting career opportunities for our students.
“Working more closely with major local employers, to ensure we are teaching the skills they require, is one of the key targets of the team at Telford College going forward.”
