Sports students from Telford College will be taking on football teams from some of the biggest names in the land this season, thanks to a partnership with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

The college’s male first team will be wearing the famous old Wolves gold and black and representing the club in the Community & Education Football Alliance.

It means the Haybridge campus will be welcoming the likes of Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Walsall over the coming months.

The next match to be hosted by the college will be against Swindon Town on October 16.

The Community & Education Football Alliance is a competition run for club community organisations, featuring teams representing Premier League and English football league across the country.

It is the only competition for EFL club community organisations with club names, official kits and associated club support.

Telford College runs a series of successful sport courses in partnership with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They give students access to Molineux Stadium and Compton Park Training Ground, and a chance to work closely with UEFA-licensed coaches and undertake practical and theoretical workshops.

The college’s male second team will be playing in the local county league this season, with the female team lining up in the AOC Sport Midlands league.

Ashley Bowler, teaching and learning mentor for sport at the college, said: “The continuation of our excellent work with Wolverhampton Wanderers means our teams this year have been entered into some fantastic leagues against other Premier league foundation sides.

“This gives our students the best possible playing experience, represent a Premier league football club, and receive first-class coaching.

“We are really looking forward to seeing how the students get on this year and urge fellow students to come down on Wednesday afternoons and support both our male and female

teams.”
