For students supported by an EHCP. Our Foundation Learning courses are specifically designed to support students with additional learning support needs, including a high staff to student ratio, small group sizes, specialist facilities and resources, and a dedicated staff team.
This programme is aimed at developing students’ self-awareness, confidence, independence, communication skills, social skills and employability skills in preparation for future employment and/or progression onto our prestigious Supported Internship programmes in partnership with Princess Royal Hospital and Kuehne + Nagel (based at MOD Donnington).
Students will also be given the opportunity to undertake functional skills or GCSEs in English and maths, as appropriate to their starting points.
With an understanding that some of our students may not be fully confident or have the skills required to progress straight onto our Supported Internship programmes, this programme will strive to teach them the skills needed to be as independent as possible at to get them work ready.
Students will be provided with lots of opportunities to complete internal work experience placements within the college, including our business enterprises in retail, hospitality and catering. This provides students with a safe and familiar environment in which they can begin to learn and develop their work-related skills. Once the skills are embedded and the students are confident, they will have the opportunity to undertake external placements of interest within the local community, where students will be closely supported by qualified staff. By exposing the students to different working environments at this stage, it allows our staff to support them in making an informed decision about what job they may wish to pursue in the future and what Supported Internship programme they would be most suited to.
