A Telford College information event designed to encourage more women into the logistics industry was a big success.

The ‘Women Into Logistics’ session, including presentations from employers and past students, was held at GTG in Willenhall, Wolverhampton.

“We wanted to highlight the rewarding career paths available for women in the sector,” explained Aneeta Hazir, employer partnerships manager at the college.

“We are keen to run a women-only version of our popular logistics course, which provides the insight and skills needed for a successful career in the haulage industry – and the response from delegated to this was great.”

The event included talks from employers and a keynote address from Sophie Damoglou, an experienced supply chain manager whose career has seen her take on transformation and change roles at Cadbury, Honeywell, Northern Rail and Reckitt.

She is currently working as logistics development manager with Fortnum & Mason, delivering projects for the stores and ecommerce operation.

Students who have already completed Telford College’s logistics course also spoke about their experiences, and how it has helped to provide a springboard for new career opportunities.

Aneeta said: “Logistics offers dynamic career paths – everything from management to tech-driven roles – providing significant opportunities for growth and success.

“It is the backbone of global commerce, yet it remains male-dominated. Encouraging more women to join the industry challenges outdated stereotypes and is a win-win for everyone.

“Companies benefit from improved morale, stronger workplace culture, and a broader perspective on business challenges.

“By breaking down barriers, inspiring young women, and promoting gender diversity, we want to play our part in making the logistics industry more adaptive, competitive, and sustainable.”
