Work on our new ‘Telford 6th’ building in the town centre is making significant strides.

This flagship facility is being delivered by contractor McPhillips and is set to open in September 2026.

It will create a new modern home for the College’s A level provision and attract students from across the borough and further afield due to its location at Station Quarter in Telford Town Centre.

Major progress has been made inside the building with mechanical and electrical installations being delivered across multiple floors.

Improvements to the building’s exterior are also going well with façade work progressing.

Next steps for the project include the installation of mechanical, electrical, and partitioning works across other floors while work on the facade of the building is continuing and new windows are set to be installed shortly.

The multi-million pound sixth form centre will allow Telford College to significantly expand its A-Level offering in a self-contained sixth form setting.

In the building there will be state-of-the-art science labs for physics, biology and chemistry, a drama studio, arts studio, bespoke library for learners and much more.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said: “Work is progressing really well on the new sixth form centre which will be a huge boost for Telford College and students across Telford and Wrekin.

“We are really excited to see this project coming to fruition alongside The Quad – creating an excellent academic campus in the heart of Telford and establishing Telford Town Centre as the place to gain qualifications, learn new skills and secure great careers.”

Lawrence Wood, principal and chief executive officer at Telford College, said: “Telford 6th will form another key part of our growing academic presence in the town centre.

“Sitting alongside our digital and maths skills hub at The Quad, this latest development strengthens the offer from Telford and Wrekin’s further education college – ensuring that we are meeting the needs of the communities we serve.”

Chris Walker, McPhillips director, said: “We are pleased to see the Addenbrooke House project advancing well. The completion of key internal works and the significant progress of the façade demonstrate our team’s dedication and commitment to delivering top-quality construction.

“This project is more than just a building transformation – it represents a stepping stone for local education and opportunity.

“As we move forward across the summer, our focus remains on maintaining the momentum while ensuring all aspects of the project are completed to the highest standard.

“The next steps will bring us closer to realising Telford College’s vision for a centralised, state-of-the-art sixth form centre. It’s a project we are deeply proud to be part of, here in the heart of the community.”
