About the course

This qualification will develop your knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in children’s and young people’s sectors combining health and early years. The course covers the roles played by workers, including principles and values, health and safety, and working with others. You will learn essential transferable skills such as good communication. The course includes understanding the principles and values in young people’s settings and roles, awareness of protection and safeguarding; and an introduction to communication. You can also take functional skills maths and English alongside this foundation level course, and if you complete it successfully, you can progress on to level 2 Childcare or an apprenticeship.

  • Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care, early years and childcare
  • Understand the principles and values in health and social care, early years and childcare
  • Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care, early years and childcare
  • Introduction to communication in health and social care, early years and childcare
  • Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Human growth and development
  • Introduction to the physical care needs of babies and young children
  • Introduction to mental health

 

Work placement opportunities:
Nursery settings, schools, SEN schools and community groups

Progressing to: Level 2 studies in early years, apprenticeships or junior health roles
Aspirational careers: Early Years Practitioner, social worker, counsellor, psychologist, support worker.

4 GCSEs at grade 1-2, and a clean DBS check

You will need to have a DBS check (fully funded by the college) so please collate all the evidence needed prior to starting the course. Our aim is to provide all of our students with good social and personal skills in order to progress on to the next level of study.
