About the course

On this two-year course you will develop technical skills in graphic design, photography, filming and video editing and work with real-world clients to creative briefs and produce a portfolio to showcase your skills to universities and potential employers. Taught by experienced, skilled tutors and guest lecturers, you will gain a valuable, working insight into the creative industries. Examples of projects covered are making music videos, TV advert/ident production, social action projects – where you work with a local business/charity to their brief, producing short films, soundtrack production, creating infographics and guides, and live event support. You will use our extensive collection of video and still cameras and audio equipment, foley studio and greenscreen room, and complete an industry placement of 315-plus hours a year.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or maths, and some experience in creative media

Additional information

Resources – You will have access to our extensive range of camera, lighting, audio, editing and IT equipment. However, we recommend that you have your own set of headphones (with a mini-jack connection) and an SD card 16gb+. You will have the opportunity to go on trips to visit TV and radio studios, galleries and cinemas as well as photography trips in Birmingham and Liverpool. Guest speakers from the BBC, ITV and universities will enrich your learning at the college and help you decide on your future career aims.
