About the course

You’ll study the significant events and personalities of the past, building on the historical skills developed during GCSE study. You’ll refine your analytical skills, learning how to examine historical sources and communicate your knowledge. Studying two units in the first year, Germany circa 1918-89 and Spain circa 1930- 78, you’ll establish a thorough understanding of history as a discipline and carry out your own independent research in a historical enquiry worth 20% of your overall grade, the remainder is of the assessment is exam-based.

Careers and progression

Progressing to:
Degrees in history, politics, law or teaching, or jobs as a researcher, museum curator, teacher, or Government officer

Aspirational careers:
Archivist, lawyer, author, researcher, publicist, lecturer, TV or film producer

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English and maths. If taken at GCSE, a minimum grade 4 in history. If GCSE history has not been taken, we’ll need to discuss your options with you

Work placement opportunities:
Sunnycroft, Attingham Park, National Trust, English Heritage, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin museums
