About the course

If you’re passionate about Information Technology, this prepares you for an ideal future. You’ll be introduced to a variety of career opportunities while continuing to study English and maths, developing transferable and sector-specific skills that will ease your progression into further learning. It’s an assignment-based qualification covering aspects such as digital information and communications, using applications and creating and using websites. All students will benefit from work experience talks and some will benefit from industry-specific work placements. You’ll also have weekly tutorials covering a wide range of activities to develop broader skills such as CV writing, interviews and money. This course includes tuition on being organised, developing a personal progression plan, working with others, and researching topics.

Work placement opportunities:
Telford & Wrekin Council, IT contractors, local schools

Careers and progression

Progressing to: IT Level 2, computing apprenticeships, or straight into employment
Aspirational careers: Software developer, data scientist, IT manager, systems analyst, network and IT infrastructure architect

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades 2-1, including English or maths

Additional information

Trips include a visit to Milton Keynes to see the first mainframe computer and other ad hoc trips depending on student career aspirations. Uniform is to be worn: this can be purchased from the College at approx £10 per polo shirt.
