About the course

Healthcare support staff can work in a variety of different settings within the NHS and private care facilities. The role is to provide assistance to healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients.

This qualification is designed to provide existing healthcare workers with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to work in a range of healthcare support settings.

The qualification has mandatory and optional units and a range of different assessment methods are used to enable assignments to reflect creativity.  The mandatory units cover core competencies and the optional units allow learners to choose from a variety of specialist areas to tailor the qualification to their needs, interests and to reflect the context of their work.

Topics and units

Alongside the practical experiences, some of the area’s you will study include:

  • Dementia awareness.
  • Diabetes awareness
  • Supporting individuals to eat and drink.
  • Understanding personal wellbeing.
  • Health and safety
  • Moving and handling.
  • Understanding mental capacity and restrictive practice.

Entry requirements

  • Suitable for those with experience in the sector aged 19+
  • Someone with excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Level 4 or above in GCSE English
