About the course

Always wanted to pursue a higher-education qualification but not sure where to start? Does the thought of returning to study feel overwhelming? Our Pre-Access to HE courses could be the perfect opportunity to gain an insight into what higher-level study could do for you!

This study skills programme has been specially designed to prepare you for your academic journey through Higher Education. It will develop academic skills including research, writing, referencing and IT skills. You will have opportunities to discuss your career aspirations, your strengths and any areas for development.

The course will assist your progression, your HE experience and allow you to begin the academic year with the necessary skills required to study at level 4 and above.

Topics and units

  • Write in an academic style
  • Structure an essay
  • Take notes effectively
  • Find appropriate sources
  • Reference correctly
  • Use IT efficiently
  • Manage your college and life commitments
  • Access support including financial information and guidance

Additional information

In total, there are 12 study hours. These are a combination of face-to-face classes on campus and some self-directed study. Classes take place, 9:15am – 12:30pm.
