About the role

As part of the Telford College Employer Engagement team, you will deliver high-quality Teaching, Learning, and Assessment to engineering apprentices, helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in industry. Working closely with local employers, you’ll play a vital role in bridging education and the business community.

In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you will contribute to improving standards and learner achievement through a range of administrative and course development duties, ensuring a consistently excellent apprentice experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and teach up to 425 global hours every academic year to apprentices and part time higher national students up to Level 5 to agreed success targets.
  • Regularly review and monitor the attendance and progress of apprentices and follow up as required to ensure they achieve their targets.
  • Carry out, collate and feedback initial and/or diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support as required, providing differentiated learning strategies to enable students to achieve their primary learning goal.
  • Provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme.
  • Agree and design programmes in his/her Vocational specialism’s, as required by the Business Program Manager, provide high quality Teaching, Learning and Assessment delivery and support candidates to achieve their qualification within agreed time
  • Prepare Schemes of Work, workbooks and training packages for training and assessment, as required by the Business Program
  • Enrol and induct candidates with the College, ensuring all information is
  • Register candidates with the appropriate Awarding Body, as required by the Business Program Manager, and within the timescales allowed by the Awarding
  • Monitor the status of candidate achievement through progress
  • Maintain contact with customer base and visit as required to ensure progress and quality delivery of qualifications and training

If IQA qualified:

  • Carry out internal quality assurance of colleagues portfolios as required by your Business Program Manager and the Awarding
  • Work to the Joint Awarding Bodies Guidance for Internal (Quality Assurance)
Skills, knowledge and expertise

Qualifications and training

  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
  • Assessment/Assessing/Assessor Qualifications (A1, TAQA, CAVA) or a firm commitment to achieve an assessing qualification
  • Relevant Vocational Qualification at Degree Level (Engineering)
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* – C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College
  • A full driving license and use of a suitable vehicle

Skills and expertise

  • Vocational competency (NVQ) in training and assessment within Engineering sector (Mechanical manufacturing, maintenance and electronic)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload
  • To be an inspiring teacher, enthusiastic with the ability to motivate students and a willingness and ability to tackle poor student performance.
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity and equality of opportunity
  • Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others
