About the role

Telford College are seeking a passionate and dedicated Sport specialist to join our dynamic teaching team. This role is central to delivering high-quality Sport provision to our diverse cohort of full-time learners, with a strong focus on creating an exceptional student experience that drives positive achievement and personal development.

You will play an active role in shaping and delivering engaging, inclusive, and progressive Sport education across a broad curriculum, while also contributing to wider departmental goals through a range of administrative and developmental activities. Your input will help to continuously improve our standards and support learners to reach their full potential.

We welcome applications from individuals with a variety of Sport specialisms, as we are committed to building a multi-skilled team that reflects the breadth of our curriculum and meets the evolving needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and teach on Sport courses such as Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, Btec Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, NCFE Level 2 Sport, Btec Level 1 Certificate in Sport and related units on programmes in public uniformed services courses as required.
  • Regularly review and monitor the attendance and progress of learners and follow up as required to ensure learners achieve their targets.
  • Carry out, collate and feedback initial and/or diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support as required, providing adaptive learning strategies to enable students to achieve their full potential.
  • Provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme.
  • Evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely constructive and helpful learner feedback that identifies areas for development.
  • Arrange, support and attend enrichment and work experience activities such as sporting events, trips, guest speakers, workshops, and residentials.
  • Maintain quality systems related to the teaching of Sport including designing work schemes, lesson plans, assessment plans and assessment activities.

 

Skills, knowledge and expertise

Qualifications and training

  • 2:1 degree or equivalent in a relevant area
  • Teaching qualification. Applications from Newly Qualified Teachers will be considered
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* – C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College
  • Additional qualifications and/or higher degrees in the relevant area(s) are desirable but not essential
  • Coaching qualifications – Holds Industry related qualifications linked to fitness and/or sport industry e.g. fitness instructing, personal training, NGB coaching qualifications (desirable)

Skills and expertise

  • Successful experience of teaching in a relevant area. For Newly Qualified or less experienced teachers, ability and the drive to become an excellent teacher are essential attributes
  • Experience of leading/coaching in a sport related context
  • A proven track record of supporting learners as individuals and developing independent learning
  • Up to date knowledge of and ability to apply a range of assessment practices
  • Evidence of participation in, or willingness to become involved in, continuing professional development in the practice of teaching and in the further development of subject knowledge and professional practice
