Ellie-Grace Stuart is looking to build the foundations for a successful career in construction after finishing her bricklaying programme with Telford College.
A former Charlton School pupil, Ellie originally studied sports, physical activity and psychology at a different provider, choosing to change career path and enter the world of construction.
“I decided to study bricklaying as it’s something I’ve always had an interest in.” said Ellie. “I thought it would be an exciting industry to learn something new in and it seemed really fun and hands on to learn.”
“I chose to study at Telford College as I found the tutors really understanding and enthusiastic, I knew instantly that this was the course for me.”
“I enjoyed everything about my course; there wasn’t one negative thing I have to say about it! I really enjoyed learning from my tutor Steve, he helped me so much. He would dedicate his own time in free periods to tutor me and he helped me pass my exams.”
“Despite being the only girl in my class, I found my classmates to be really nice and respectful to me. I really liked the good atmosphere in most sessions and if I ever needed any help in my assignments, my peers were there to support me.”
Ellie was also one of the bricklaying students who worked on our project at Weston Park, where she helped restore the perimeter of the 18th century walled garden that was originally designed by famous landscape architect Capability Brown.
Outside of Telford College, Ellie enjoys playing football and works part-time in a school, carrying out any extra work to help her mum.
Now that she has finished her studies at Telford College, Ellie is looking to progress her career in the construction sector and is looking to apply for a CSCS card, allowing her to work on a building site. “My dream job would probably be having my own business either renovating houses or having my own bricklaying business.”
Ellie’s tutor, Stephen O’Donoghue, said “Ellie has done amazing throughout the course and has completed all the assignments set to her fantastically. She has been unfazed by working in all weather conditions and she has excelled in classroom-based theory work.
“Construction in whole is becoming more inclusive and I think Ellie is a fantastic role model for any females who want to learn skills in bricklaying.”
