A Telford College apprentice has been recognised for her achievements in a national awards competition.

Abigail Jones is studying level three mechatronics with the college, while working at i2r Packaging Solutions at Hadley Park.

The 21-year-old was one of just four people shortlisted as finalists in the Lloyds Banking Group SME Apprentice of the Year 2023 Awards.

The company described her as an ‘amazing’ apprentice, and said they were ‘super proud’ of her achievements.

James Knight, i2r’s managing director, said: “Abi’s journey exemplifies the significance of apprenticeships and serves as an inspiration to others striving for excellence in their chosen fields.

“She is a valuable asset to our company and we are absolutely thrilled to celebrate her success.”

The awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated growth, added significant value to their respective companies, and become strong advocates for apprenticeships in their communities.

On her mechatronics qualification at Telford College, Abigail is covering covers a broad range of activities to ensure plant and equipment run to the required standard of efficiency and safety.

Her passion for engineering was sparked by her family – particularly her father who is a civil engineer.

Telford College engineering trainer and assessor Simon Smith said: “It is great news to see Abi recognised in these awards.

“She is super keen and helps to organise the other apprentices on site . Her work is always to a very high standard, and I am sure she will go far in i2r over the next few years.”
