Singing the praises of Telford College’s music courses

Lara Collier

Students have praised the industry-standard music facilities at Telford College which are helping to tune up their creative ambitions.

Former Telford Priory School duo Thomas Bartlett and Lara Collier, both 18, are on the level three music course – and say they are loving the chance to collaborate and create original work.

Thomas, from Donnington, says: “My favourite part of the course is how it encourages you to work with other musicians. Nothing is an entirely solo project.

“I would recommend the course as it helps you develop all musical skills, and the college also has great industry-standard facilities. Staff are really friendly, and will help you achieve your ambitions and goals.”

After college, Thomas says he plans to study music performance at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute, with a view to becoming a metal guitarist.

Lara, from Oakengates, says she particularly enjoys the performing side of the level three music course at Telford College.

“I’d recommend the music course because the teachers are the best – they can make learning about the music industry fun.

“I chose Telford College because it was in a convenient location and the music department looked very inviting when I attended one of the open events.

“The staff are funny and can have a laugh, but they always deliver the information and knowledge you need to succeed.”

After college, Lara wants to go into full-time work so she can pay for the equipment she will need to produce her own music, and become an accomplished musician.

Telford College’s music courses prepare students for a wide range of aspirational careers, including jobs as songwriters, session musicians, sound engineers, professional musicians, and event managers.

They also offer experiences and work placements with the likes of the BBC, recording studios, local event venues and music festivals.
