T-Level students offer free health checks for staff

Health T-Level Students

Two groups of our health T-Level students were out and about offering staff and students free health checks, measuring blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation and temperature.

One team of students, on the adult nursing pathway of the programme, were Shantel Mangauzani, Lilian Gyamfi, Kailani Taylor and Claudia Owusu Afram. They had consulted a whole host of staff members including teaching staff, directors, office-based staff and estates.

“This gives our teachers the opportunity to see how we perform on our placements” says Kailani. “Going around the college today and offering these checks helps display our confidence and bedside manner.”

“These checks are extremely important to people, especially with the lifestyle changes of younger people in the UK, More and more people are seeing higher blood pressure and the earlier you recognise the signs, the sooner you can do something about it.”

“It also shows the rest of the college what T-Level students do, what we learn and raises awareness of our course” adds Lilian.

There were also students on the mental health pathway performing hand massages in our state-of-the-art mock hospital ward.

The group’s tutor, Alixandra Jordan Collins, explained “This activity was completed to help them with their communication and interpersonal skills with people they have not met before.

Sarah Davies, director of health and science, said “I am so proud of how professional and well organised the health T-Level students have been during this event. The skills they are learning from their clinical placements and simulated environments are brilliant.

“I have had so much positive feedback from staff around their maturity and communication skills and we hope to continue this as a regular event for staff to attend wellbeing checks.”
