Telford College has been commended in a national awards scheme for its engagement with employers.

It is one of just a handful of colleges on the shortlist for the City & Guilds Award for College Engagement with Employers Award, at the 2021/22 Association of Colleges Beacon Awards.

Assessors say Telford College should be commended for its practice, having demonstrated ‘a high level of innovation, impact and sustainability’. The finalists will be announced at the AoC’s annual conference on November 17.

Graham Guest, Telford College principal and chief executive, said: “It is hugely satisfying to see the work we are doing with employers being recognised on a national stage.

“Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at Telford College, and we have created several ambitious and exciting alliances which are bringing industry and education closer together, raising aspirations.”

Telford College has active links with around 700 employers, and has set up a series of sector-specific employment hubs to boost skills – with more on the way.

It is also taking the lead across the Marches on a Government-backed Strategic Development Fund project designed to boost skills, with a specific focus on the health and care sectors.
