Two brand-new upskilling programmes are now available for new students who want to learn basic DIY skills, starting in June at the college’s Wellington campus.
The new programmes, an Introduction to Basic Home Maintenance & an Introduction to MIG Welding, are the first of several new evening classes and have limited spaces.
An introduction to basic home maintenance will teach learners painting and decorating skills, such as how to apply wallpaper, basic plumbing abilities, tiling skills and how to fix lathes and locks.
Meanwhile, the introduction to MIG welding will explore welding safety precautions, setting up equipment and a variety of various welding techniques.
Robert Lees, director of automotive, construction & engineering at Telford College, said: “The aim of the home maintenance programme is to provide homeowners with some basic knowledge regarding the skills required to carry out basic repairs and upgrades to their properties.
“In the current cost of living crisis home repairs can prove costly and it is hoped that the skills taught on this short course can save local residents some money that can be better spent on other priorities.
“The welding short programme provides enthusiasts and hobbyists with an introduction to some basic welding skills. This has a view of progression onto our approved welding qualification, which may open employment opportunities for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in welding and fabrication.
“For those that enjoy the content there is then a chance of coming back in September and enrolling on an approved qualification that will explore the subjects in much more details.”
Both programmes start at 6pm on Tuesday 4th June 2024 and last for five weeks, apply today.
